Let’s face it, nobody really likes potty talk, but Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport is flushing things out and is bound to make their competition greenwith envy.
As a recent recipient of Skytrax hotel poll’s “Best Airport Hotel Awards 2011 in North America,” Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport has just installed nearly 800 new, eco-friendly toilets in all its guestrooms and public restrooms.
As part of the hotel’s commitment to the environment, Chief Engineer Larry Builta is continuously looking for ways to enhance the property’sgreen initiatives. He comments, “As a result of this recent installation, the hotel saves at least 2.5 gallons of water on each flush, resulting in approximately 500,000 gallons of water a month and an annual savings of $125,000 in water/sewage costs.” Thanks to this initiative with PG&E, the hotel anticipates several additional partnerships in conservation with the public utility as the hotel continues to minimize its impact on the environment.
For consumers interested in the water saving toilets installed at the hotel, the specific style name/number is the Caravelle 270. Available online at Amazon.com and many other sites, this model is also available at neighborhood appliance stores. Highlights of the product are as follows:
· High efficiency toilet (HET) - 1.6/0.8 gallons (6/3 liters) per flush
· Two piece, two button dual flush toilet
· Large fully concealed trapway
· Virtually unblockable
· 10-12" adjustable rough-in
9. Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport Welcomes the U.S. Open in June 2012
The United States Open Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Open, is the annual open golf tournament of the USA. It is the second of the four major championships in golf, and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. It is staged by United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June each year and will be hosted at the Olympic Club in San Francisco June 11-19, 2012.
The Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport is the official media hotel during the tour and will welcome journalists from around the world.
The U.S. Open is staged at a variety of courses, set up in such a way that scoring is very difficult with a premium placed on accurate driving. U.S. Open play is characterized by tight scoring at or around par by the leaders, with the winner usually emerging at around even par. A U.S. Open course is seldom beaten severely, and there have been many over-par wins (in part because par is usually set at 70 except for the very longest courses).
The U.S. Open is the only one of the four major championships which does not go immediately to a playoff if two or more players are tied at the end of the four rounds. Instead, the players play a fifth 18-hole round the following day (Monday), but if a tie still exists after that round, then a sudden-death playoff is held. Only three times has the U.S. Open gone to sudden-death after the playoff round, most recently in 2008 when Tiger Woods defeated Rocco Mediate on the first additional playoff hole.
Coverage of The U.S. Open is broadcasted on television by NBC and ESPN. So tune in for more as we post fun facts and historical notes prior to the tour and update the blog with status updates as the tour gets underway.

Exclusive organic menu complements Hyatt’s industry-leading children’s menu “For Kids By Kids” and marks the first hotel partnership for Waters.
CHICAGO (August 7, 2012) – Hyatt today announced details of its new organic and seasonal children’s menu created exclusively for Hyatt by renowned food pioneer and chef, Alice Waters. The new menu, featuring a three-course organic meal, marks the first hotel project for Waters and complements Hyatt’s groundbreaking “For Kids By Kids” menu, providing children more nutritious, fresh and interactive offerings. The new children’s food and beverage offerings at Hyatt are grounded in the brand’s industry-leading philosophy Food. Thoughtfully Sourced. Carefully Served., promoting healthy people, a healthy planet and healthy communities, and will be offered in all full-service Hyatt hotels and resorts throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean.
Waters, known for her culinary philosophy that maintains cooking should be based on fresh, organic, and seasonal ingredients that are produced sustainably and locally, worked with Hyatt to develop a full organic meal offering including a salad, chicken entrée and a dessert.
“All children deserve to eat real food,” said Alice Waters. “I wanted to do a small, three course meal, within the context of Hyatt’s initiative, that could be sourced exclusively from organic farms across the country. Of course it’s about taste and ripeness and seasonality—but it’s bigger than that, too: it’s about supporting the people who are taking care of the land for our future generations.”
“As Alice Waters is a pioneer, we feel this aligns perfectly with Hyatt’s commitment to being a leader in our industry as it relates to the health of our youngest guests,” said Susan Santiago, vice president, food and beverage, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, North America. “We’ve done extensive research and it shows that kids have a more sophisticated palate than ever, and so working with Alice is a natural fit.”
Alice Waters’ menu at Hyatt features:
* Romaine Lettuce Hearts, Carrot Curls and a Radish Rose with Lemon Vinaigrette for Dipping. “Contrary to prevailing beliefs, getting kids to eat vegetables is not difficult. We simply have to meet their most basic impulses: to eat something that is engaging and that tastes delicious,” said Waters. “The aliveness of textures and colors, as well as the ‘do-it-yourself’ nature of this salad, makes this universally appealing to kids.”
* Grilled Chicken with Pesto Sauce, Roasted Potatoes and Cherry Tomatoes. “This is a dish of simple grilled and roasted ingredients, served with a pesto sauce. The trick with something so straightforward is to be confident that the ingredients are the best that they can be.”
* Strawberry and Orange Slices served with a Sweet Juice in a Real Orange Cup. “The goal here is to appeal to kids’ imagination about ‘dessert,’ without feeding them unhealthy, sugary food,” said Waters. “A real orange cup filled with a luxurious amount of perfectly sliced ripe fruit feels special, and the juice is made with a touch of honey to sweeten it.”
To add another layer of fun to mealtime, Hyatt will launch a Flavor Journey online experience in September where kids and parents can learn more about organic foods, the “For Kids By Kids” menu and enjoy games and activities. Guests can use a QR code on the “For Kids By Kids” menu to link to the site.
